On Wednesday 9 November, Year 10 and Year 11 GCSE Music students took part in an opera workshop followed by a performance of Donizetti's Don Pasquale at Milton Keynes theatre. During the workshop the pupils were able to listen to and engage with singers from the Glyndebourne Opera Company, enabling them to appreciate the fine art of opera singing and experience the sheer power of the professional singers' voices close up. Girls were then able to sing and act out parts of the opera, enabling them to put what they had learnt into context. By the end, everyone was ready to see, hear and enjoy the performance from the Glyndebourne Opera Company with genuine understanding. The performance was truly inspiring, the girls were able to spot the singers who led the workshop and had to stop themselves from singing along to the wonderful arias. Pupils were so inspired by the workshop that they led a whole school warm up during hymn practice the next day!
